About Our School

New Frontiers Satellite Program serves junior high school students in grades 7 through 9.  New Frontiers is the alternative program for students who prefer a smaller learning environment than the traditional junior high school.  We are located adjacent to Central Kitsap Junior High School off of Frontier Place in Silverdale, Washington.

Students choose to attend New Frontiers for a variety of reasons.  Many of today's students are more successful in an alternative school setting for academic and social reasons.  At New Frontiers, students find a smaller school with fewer distractions where they can receive more individual help from adults.  Students are able to work independently and at their own pace and complete courses in less time than in a traditional semester program.  Many students who attend need credits in order to be promoted to the tenth grade in the Central Kitsap School District.  Other students who attend prefer the alternative school environment as opposed to the typical junior high school.  New Frontiers also offers parenting classes for expectant teens and day care services for teens with infant children.

New Frontiers offers two three-hour sessions Monday through Thursday with no required attendance on Fridays.  Students are also expected to do a minimum number of homework hours per week.  Fridays are teacher preparation and conference days; although, students may attend if prearranged by their teacher.  The curriculum at New Frontiers is focused on the core academic subjects and aligned with district and state standards.  Students are prepared for and expected to take standardized tests including the Washington State Assessment of Student Learning.  A variety of computers and technology is available at New Frontiers for student use for assignments and projects.

Students who attend New Frontiers earn credits that are transferable to any secondary school in the state.  When a student completes all ninth-grade requirements they have the option of transferring to one of the two district alternative high schools or to the traditional high school in their service area.  These decisions are made with input from students, parents, and teachers.
